Nightshade
Yes! We’ve hit the one month mark! Nightshade will begin weekly issue on 23/08/2014.
And of course this means that this will be the last of our monthly progress journals!
Last time we shed some light on the location Nightshade is set in, and so it only seems logical that this time around we catch a glimpse of the characters who shape the story. Quite frankly, they’re a mixed bunch, and I’d like to give you the chance to meet them all along the way, so we’ll only select a handful for this journal.
Any society has a basic hierarchy, and Downtown is no different. Survival downtown is very much dependant on who you know, and who you’re known as, so you better listen up. Seated at the top of this structure are the gang leaders, mentioned in our previous journal.
Most notable of the three is a man named Sabre. He has been operating munitions trade in the district for the last two decades and has more respect and authority than any identified individual in the area. Sabre has been deeply connected with the running of downtown for a very long time, and his gang is the largest there is. In fact by this point, most of them are related to him in some way; and we all know how important family is. Up until now his control and authority has been unrivaled, but there are those who would like to suggest there’s somebody out there with even more control than the prestigious “King” of Downtown.
The other two notable gangs are “Raven” and “Skylark”, headed up by rivals donning the same names. These two however have an explosive and bloody rivalry. A rivalry that has been raging for the last six years, which, in its wake has claimed many lives and torn the already deprived area in two. As a result of this conflict, each group has their own territory, stepping out of which could be fatal.
And of course, you’ve all seen her face, but very little has been said about Bella, the female lead in the series. On first glance she’s really rather cute (if you can get past the spikes and leather) and at 4ft 8in she’s one of the smallest characters in the series. But don’t let that fool you. There’s a lot more violent rage packed into that tiny torso than you would’ve thought it could hold… And that’s what our next character is about to find out!
Last but certainly not least, we have Oliver Sloane. The oh-so-innocent teenage boy looking for answers. Those of you who read the teaser chapter will have come across Oli already, if not, you can read it here: www.nightshade-manga.com/previ… His one goal is to identify who shot his Grandfather. All he wants is the truth, but will his naivety be his downfall?
It is a well known fact that you need connections to get by, and the quickest way to make those connections is to join a gang, despite its dangers. There are, however, quite a few individuals, not mentioned in this journal, who find other ways of getting by.
On 23/08/2014 we’ll join Oliver as he takes those first steps into the unknown, seeking to unfold the truth of who “Nightshade” truly is.
